🍕🎥Pizza and Movie Night - Mother Daughter Edition 🍕🎥

There are some traditions that we all hold near and dear to our hearts and minds. One for me has been - Pizza and movie nights. We did them growing up when we were home on Friday nights, and honestly, liked the idea of doing those instead of going out and doing anything else…. And so we’ve continued the tradition at our house. It’s not been a super regular thing over the years - work and other obligations have come and gone, but since Soph has started enjoying movies (Alex the Lion, Dragons Fly, Incredibles, and Silly Songs with Larry are the top currently), we’ve tried to make it a weekly habit again.

While we do love pizza and movie nights as a family, there is something special about doing them - just Mama and Soph. Now I’ve never been one to make multiple special meals for our family, more of a “you get what you get and you don’t throw a fit” type attitude… and to be fair…. It’s mostly been Ben and I so fits have been few and far between 😜🤣😜🤣 and while we’ve continued this tradition with Soph, honestly sometimes it’s not worth the battle. One of those battles I don’t fight - pizza toppings. We haven’t moved to personal pans yet - mostly because Ben and I typically eat the same thing so the extra dishes aren’t worth it. But Soph. She’s been an interesting one for what she will and won’t eat - for example: she loves the thick cut pepperoni COLD, but won't touch the thin sandwich style stuff or any of it cooked. So - she gets a cheese pizza (because she wont eat cold cheese but will often eat it if its ON something and warm), while Ben and I get a “everything but the kitchen sink” type pizza. Honestly it depends on what we have but mostly stick to the basics…although I’m loving spinach and pepperoni and banana peppers right now (ADHD fixation).

I’ve found a GREAT pizza crust recipe that I’ll share at some point, but really I’m working to change it up a little and make it a little healthier (honestly I’ve been dragging my feet a bit on this because I REALLY like what we’ve been using and I don’t really want to mess with it…..), and then we use primal kitchen pizza sauce (so excited to make our own from our garden!!!), and thick cut pepperoni, fresh spinach, and then banana peppers (SIDE NOTE - if anyone has a good recipe for making your own or where I can get some without food dye, PLEASE let me know!), and honestly sometimes we hit the easy button and use a great frozen one from Thrive Market or order in.

Typically we start a movie with our dinner and then add popcorn and a “treat” (depending on the week), and have our pink drink (no - it’s THIS one from doTERRA), and Soph can stay up a little later depending on the movie…. To be clear - we don’t like movies where the dog dies (Shooter being the exception), but Soph isn’t QUITE old enough to watch serial killer MOVIES… but we might have watched an episode (or two) of Criminal Minds etc…. #sorrynotsorry

Now, why would I want to have this tradition with my daughter? Especially when she’s so young? Because I want to build in a consistent time with her. I know that it seems weird but with the way my brain works, I literally need reminders for EVERYTHING (think about some of the routines I’ve mentioned that I have), and built in - consistent time is really important to me. Thus - Pizza and Movie Night Mother Daughter Edition 🍕🎥🍿🍫
