Spring Reset 🌸🌼🌺
verb: reset; set again or differently.
"I must reset the alarm"
Or in our case - we must reset to a life - outside of the house! With winter we tend to buckle down and get stuff done inside, and rest, and be cozy for the short cold winter days…. But come spring - it feels like it’s time to GET MOVING!!!
It’s a time when our body clocks get reset (thanks Day Light Savings Time….I love springing forward and losing an hr of sleep…), most people participate in spring cleaning one way or another, and the world is slowly “coming alive” again. We have gardens being woken up, buds on trees starting to poke out, robins coming back around, and the days start getting longer.
So what can we do to start resetting our minds as all of this begins to take place?
Routine
You know - as does everyone else, that our brains do well with routine. Even if it’s not a hard and fast routine, we need that. There have been days that Emmalee’s forgotten her contacts because she’s gotten out of routine while getting ready and had to go back to get them. Having some of those decisions made ahead of time helps our brains process more important things like “If a woodchuck COULD chuck wood - how much could he really chuck?” 🐇This is why habit stacking is such a good way to add habits into your life - you are already doing X so you can add Y to your routine. 🐇
But not just HAVING a routine - now is a great time to adjust it and “clean it up”. Want to make exercise a priority? Where is it going to fit best into your routine? When are you most likely to WANT to run to the gym or take a walk?
Journal
We’ve talked about our everyday notebook, but did you know that’s a really easy place to journal? You can track your habits here (how many days did you actually go to the gym?), you can track your book count, your mood, prayers, and the list goes on and on. One really easy thing you can do is write what you are grateful for each and every day. Em’s goal is to write out 10 different ones each day and then she helps Sophie think of 5 (Sophie’s tend to repeat a little bit but mostly she’s thankful for her puppies and pancakes 🥰). This allows you to look at the day a little differently - because you’ve already gotten your heart and mind into a grateful attitude.
Meals
Meals are an easy reset for us - we move from hot and often heavy meals (think soups and pasta) to lighter - easier - and often cold (little to no prep) meals (have you subscribed to get our monthly meal plan yet?). We change things up but for the most part we have a big SWARM Family dinner, Taco Tuesday (this changes a little but it’s mostly taco-like things), Whatever Wednesday, Pizza movie night… well, you get the idea 😉). Keeping something simple and easy for your brain to remember for when you get distracted in the garden and realize it’s dinner time (not that we’ve totally done that or anything!).
Cleaning
Spring cleaning is a thing for a reason! It’s a great chance to open up the house and get. The. Dust. Out!! Seriously… dust allllll the things ya’ll. This is also a great time to clean out your closet - Emmalee realized this summer that she has about 8 things she wears on a regular basis seasonally…. And then if she keeps a few things for “dress up” and her LBD we could pair down our closet a great deal. This is also a great time to clean off your house plants and give them a good watering and start to transport them outside if needed.
So this spring - what is something that you are going to make a priority during your reset time?
